Afterworks

Afterworks is St. Peter's state-licensed, multicultural after-school program for children five to twelve years of age. As a mission to the community, Afterworks offers St. Peter's parishioners a unique opportunity to minister to neighborhood children with prayers, time, money, and skills. As a resource in the wider community, Afterworks offers parents in Cambridge an affordable, high-quality after-school program.  St. Peter's opens its doors every weekday to children, fulfilling the command of Jesus Christ, "Let the little children come to me."  Enrollment currently stands at 30 children.

Vyonni de Mel is the Director of Afterworks, and is assisted by a dedicated staff:, Katrina Vilensky, Robert Wharton and Laura Fokkena, our Literacy Coach.  Jafar Manselle is the Drumming Instructor.  The children are offered religious education and the opportunity to explore their faith.  The Program is guided by the Afterworks Committee consisting of St. Peter's parishioners and two parent representatives.

Not only does Afterworks provide an enriching place for children, but also a place for their families to develop their parenting skills and become a supportive community for each other. Afterworks offers many workshops and other fora to parents. Our annual survey found Afterworks parents unanimous in their support for the coverage we provide on snow days, early release, professional days, and during school vacation weeks.

Afterworks offers significant scholarships to families with the greatest need and fewest resources. Many Cambridge working families rely on Afterworks to provide a safe and nurturing out-of-school environment for their children.
