“Thy word is a Lamp unto my feet and a Light unto my Path” Psalm 119:105
Saint John was also a writer of one of the Gospels. The verse from this window comes from Psalm 119, the longest psalm as well as the longest chapter in the Bible.
As mentioned in the psalm verse, a common theme in John’s Gospel is that of light: “In him was life, and that life was the light of men” John 1:4. Here John is referring to the light that is Jesus. The communion chalice at the bottom of the window is further symbolism of the life giving light of Christ, his body & blood.
Jesus says in John’s Gospel, “I am the light of the world; he who follows me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life” John 8:12.
Exquisite detail can be seen in this window, from the lush flowers at John’s feet, to the Cherubs that hover in the Heavens above.
