“I am the Resurrection and the Life” John 11:25

The phrase here comes from John’s Gospel where he tells the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. At this point in the story, Jesus is with the sisters of Lazarus, who are mourning their brother’s death.  “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die’ ”John 11:25-26.  Soon after, Jesus ordered for the stone of Lazarus’ tomb to be removed and called for Lazarus to come out.  Miraculously, Lazarus walks out of the tomb, alive. The raising of Lazarus is symbolic of the general theme that Jesus is life.  This story also foreshadows the pending death and resurrection of Jesus.

In the window, we see the resurrection of Jesus. He is bathed in light, surrounded by angels, “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said” Matthew 28.6.   Jesus is carrying a white flag with a red cross, known as St. George’s flag, a symbol of the Anglican Church. We can also see a Roman soldier sleeping at the tomb in the corner of the scene.
